Aigue-morte

Aigue-Morte

On our way to Monpellier by car we were in good time and decided to visit Aigue-Morte. This ancient walled trading port is surrounded by pools and canals. The pools allow for the production of salt and make the water around Aigue-Morte appear pink.

The narrow shopping streets of the town are interesting food, clothe and craft shops and there are plenty of street cafes.

The walls of the town provide excellent views of the surrounding countryside and the terracotta roofs of the old town.

At the end of the city walls you can climb the tower which has a beautifully lit interior and provides spectacular views down over all the places that you have seen walking round the ramparts.
